The Way Back

Wounded Warrior Dog V

Laminated, carved, bleached and burnt cedar, cherry tongue and maple teeth

While most of the Wounded Warrior Dogs represent injured and rehabilitated veterans, this German Shepherd of the Viet Nam era is a more realistic view of the toll taken on the dog and handler after several weeks in the field, experiencing isolation, starvation and extreme elements. The long scar on the hip represents surgery for hip dysplasia, a problem common to the breed.
