James Mellick created Hillary the Dog for his own collection in memory of his beloved pet and studio companion. Hillary was a rescue dog and a Labrador and Weimaraner mix. Hillary was a model for the Labradors and Pointers that Mellick carved and made many cameo appearances in the videos filmed by visiting news teams, including WOSU PBS. In preparation for her death, James took many detailed pictures and measurements of her while she was still standing. Her spirit and memory lives on in her replica. Hillary is debuting at the Fine Arts Exhibition of the 2024 Ohio State Fair, Columbus, OH.
